Urban Wood Reutilization

Urban wood re-utilization is an emerging movement that sequesters carbon by diverting wood “waste” from the landfill and re-purposing it into lumber.  There are many great resources to learn more about how the process works and to get your hands on some recycled lumber.

  • Lumbercycle – born out of local Palomar College woodworking program, Lumbercycle serves the greater San Diego Community by “reinvesting fallen trees back into their communities.”  Lumbercycle was a 2019 SDRUFC Urban Forestry Award Winner.  Also visit their Instagram account
  • Street Tree Revival – Street Tree Revival is a program run by West Coast Arborist.  Their program has a Showroom in Anaheim where the public may purchase slabs and other products.  Also visit their Instagram account.
  • Vibrant Cities Lab – Created by the US Forest Service, American Forests and National Association of Regional Councils to help city managers, policy makers and advocates build thriving urban forest programs.  Vibrant Cities Lab is a great resource for developing urban wood recycling programs.
