South American Palm Weevil

The South American Palm Weevil was first detected in San Ysidro in 2011.  Since then it has continued to advance North and has been found in Bonita and as far East as Texas.

It feeds on a variety of palms including iconic date palms.  It poses a significant threat to the Coachella valley date palm industry.

Tell tale signs of infestation include flat topped palm trees.
